CARMA Participates in Aftercare Industry Month Panel Series

CARMA is proud to participate in Aftercare Industry Month, a virtual conference presented by the Thoroughbred Education & Research Foundation (TERF) and hosted by the Retired Racehorse Project (RRP).

Aftercare Industry Month brings together professionals from across the Thoroughbred industry to explore the realities, responsibilities, and evolving best practices of Thoroughbred aftercare. The February 2026 series features four in-depth panel discussions designed for both nonprofit organizations and industry businesses working toward responsible post-racing outcomes.

CARMA Executive Director Lucinda Lovitt will be a featured panelist on Wednesday, February 11, during the session focused on track-based transition programs.

Track-Based Transition Programs

This panel takes a behind-the-scenes look at track-based transition programs that support Thoroughbreds as they move from racing into second careers. These programs often operate in close partnership with racetracks and horsemen’s associations, providing localized, hands-on support for horses during a critical transition period.

Panelists will discuss how their programs are structured, how they collaborate with industry stakeholders, and what it takes to build and sustain a successful track-based aftercare model.

Panelists include
Raina Gunderson, Gulfstream Park Thoroughbred Transition Program
Danielle Montgomery, Turning For Home (PTHA)
Lucinda Lovitt, California Retirement Management Account (CARMA)

Additional Aftercare Industry Month Sessions can be found on their website.
