April Placement Program Graduates

Posted on May 8, 2020May 8, 2020 by admin

April Graduates

Despite California being mostly shut down due to COVID-19, four retired racehorses from the Placement Program graduated and went on to their new homes in April. Thank you all for your continued support of CARMA and other aftercare charities during this difficult time.

We hope to get back to normal soon but in the meantime, enjoy reading about April’s graduates.

Our Tiger's Boy

By all accounts, Our Tiger's Boy is a class act. Everyone from his trainer, his owner, his veterinarian and his caretakers at the layup facility praise Tiger on his sweet disposition and steady temperament. Standing at over 17hh, Tiger's physical prowess match his stellar personality.

During his racing days, Tiger made 17 starts, all in California, and earned nearly $44,000. He won twice!

Retiring due to a lack of interest, he joined the Placement Program in March. We placed with aftercare charity Fresh Start Sport Horses where he is in dressage training and is doing great. If you're interested in adopting Tiger, please contact Fresh Start Sport Horses.

YouCanAlwaysDream

At only three-years-old, Dream is one of the tallest fillies to go through the Placement Program. She is already 17 hands and is all legs! She'll be a real head-turner as she continues to mature and fill out.

Dream trained for the races but did not make it to the starting gate.

Her flashy markings caught the eye of aftercare charity Whispering Meadows Ranch who happens to own her doppelganger and needed to have Dream to match. She has already made a great impression and will soon be available for adoption.

Green With Eddie

He is just the most precious gelding. Eddie is super sweet and has the soul of a true gentleman. Whatever you ask him to do, he will do his very best. During his time with us, he was a favorite at the layup facility. In fact, he was used in pony club and showed children how wonderful retired racehorses can be!

His eagerness to please made him a winner on the track. He won the Graduation Stakes and finished second in the Santa Anita Juvenile Stakes. Eddie earned nearly $135,000.

In the next phase of his life, Eddie will continue to help kids flourish in his new forever home with aftercare charity Square Peg Foundation where he will be a riding and therapy horse.

Zapana's Game

Zapana is a seven-year-old gelding who retired from racing with 18 starts and $29,500 in earnings. He is a survivor of the Lilac Fire. His barn sustained casualties and heavy damage. Zapana was strong and was able to return to racing.

Wanting him to go on and have a second career, his connections retired him at the end of his six-year-old year.  He joined the Placement Program in November and has been adjusting to his new job as a three-day event prospect.

He was placed with aftercare charity Hope for Horses where he will continue his training and will be available for adoption.
