CARMA’s ‘Hoedown for Horses’ Fundraiser Returns to Del Mar

Posted on June 21, 2019June 21, 2019 by admin

DEL MAR, Calif., June 21, 2019 – The California Retirement Management Account (CARMA), a nonprofit dedicated to Thoroughbred aftercare, will be grabbing the bull by the horns this summer as it aims to rope it biggest and most lucrative fundraiser to date. ‘Hoedown for Horses’ will return to where the turf meets the surf on Sunday, July 21 at Del Mar Racetrack. Funds raised will directly benefit the organization’s placement program and its grant process.

“Our goal for the Hoedown is to raise a quarter of a million dollars for Thoroughbred aftercare and to host a feel-good, fun and memorable event,” said CARMA President Candace Coder-Chew. “This is our main fundraiser for the entire year. The donations we receive at this event directly impacts the number of retired racehorses we can help. We want everyone who loves horses to come out support them.”

The hoedown will have attendees kicking up their heels as they cheer on the head-to-head jockey mechanical bull riding competition, dance to live country music performed by Jake Parr, feast on a barbecue buffet and soak in the good vibes of summer. Festivities begin after last race in the iconic paddock at approximately 6:30p.m. Guests are encouraged to wear western-themed apparel, cowboy hats and boots. Hats will be available for a donation at the event.

“It’s an event and cause the entire Southern California racing community supports ,” said Billy Koch CARMA board member, founder and managing partner of racing partnership Little Red Feather Racing. “Everyone loved the jockey mechanical bull riding competition last year and we are really looking forward to doing it again.”

In addition to all the excitement, a delicious barbecue-styled buffet, by Premier Catering, will offer three different types of gourmet sliders including pork, sirloin burgers and buffalo fried chicken served with kettle chips. There will also be a mash potato station with all the fixings for a feast. When it’s time for CARMA supporters to whet their whistle, there will be a no-host full bar.

Individual tickets are $125 and sets of 10 can be bundled for $1,000. Sponsorship and underwriting opportunities ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 are still available. To purchase tickets or become a sponsor, visit carma4horses.org.
