March Graduates

With all the uncertainty in the world, we wanted to give everyone something to smile about. 13 retired racehorses graduated and headed off to either their new homes or to start second careers with aftercare charities. We want to thank everyone for their continued support of the horses - without donations, this would not be possible. If you'd like to help, you can always make a safe, secure, tax-deductible donation on our website.

Penman

When you're a flashy chestnut gelding retiring due to lack of speed, you don't stay in the Placement Program for long! Penman was scooped up in a hurry by aftercare charity Square Peg Foundation.

Penman is a three-year-old Irish-bred who made four starts before hanging up his racing plates. He is a super sport horse prospect with a sweet and goofy personality.

Please contact Square Peg Foundation if you are interested in adopting Penman.

Mischievous Maggie

After a hand full of slow workouts, the connections of three-year-old Mischievous Maggie decided it was in her best interest to pursue a career in the show ring instead of the race track. Retiring sound, Maggie did not stay in the Placement Program for long. She headed off to aftercare charity Fresh Start Sport Horses to begin training for her new life.

If she's caught your eye and would you like more information on Maggie, please follow up with Fresh Start Sport Horses.

George From Tahoe

We found ourselves saying "Oh, George" every time we discussed George From Tahoe. He is one of the kindest souls to grace the Placement Program, so we were surprised how long it took him to find his calling after racing. But, it was worth the wait! He landed in the best spot for him with Healing Arenas where he will likely be a therapy horse.

A fun fact about George: he was a $1,000 purchase but he exceeded the expectations and earned nearly $60,000 on the track!

She Beat The Fire

We all adore "Sheba", so seeing her go off to her new home was bitter sweet but she couldn't have found a more loving adopter. Sheba will be doing a little bit of everything; tricks, hunter/jumpers, trail and dressage!

Sheba retired from racing after several recorded works but was never able to make it to the races due to some minor ailments. She also survived the Lilac Fire at San Luis Rey Downs - which is how she got her name She Beat The Fire.

Branjammas Cinco

Branjammas Cinco redefines the "red mare" stigma with her easy going and sweet demeanor. We have grown to know this family well having retired half siblings Branjammas Too, Branjammas Trio and now Cinco.

She retired from racing after just one start where she finished last. After about six months in the Placement Program, Branjammas Cinco found her new home with aftercare charity Fresh Start Sport Horses where she will eventually be available for adoption.

Roger That

Every so often, a very special horse captures the heart of everyone who meets him. So far this year, it's Roger That.

Born in Great Britain, Roger competed over seas twice before shipping to California. In his last start, he ran in the Runhappy Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar last summer. It wasn't long after he joined the Placement Program and we were all smitten.

He's found the perfect place for him to continue to spread joy with aftercare charity Square Peg Foundation as a therapy horse.

Five Mile Landing

Five Mile Landing is named after his racing connection's favorite childhood vacation spot. "Miles" is a four-year-old gelding who retired from racing after just one race - where he finished last.

He was only with us for a month before finding his way to aftercare charity Whispering Meadows Ranch. He will be available for adoption as a hunter prospect.

Rocket Rod

Everyone loves a dapple grey! Rocket Rod was one of our most popular horses on social media. He retired from racing after multiple recorded works but was not able to make it to the starting gate.

Rocket Rod is a four-year-old gelding by Grazen with a great temperament and a bright future as a riding horse. He was placed with aftercare charity Whispering Meadows Ranch to start retraining for his second career.

Smiling Sam

Since we welcomed Smiling Sam to the Placement Program, aftercare charity Whispering Meadows Ranch had its eye on him for a special contact, whose name is also Sam. He will enjoy some time off before starting training for his second career as a riding horse.

Sam is a three-year-old gelding by Smiling Tiger and is out of a Malibu Moon mare.

Lucky Whalen

He is a sweet and sensitive six-year-old gelding who has been wanting his own person since he joined us in May and we're happy to share he has been placed with aftercare charity Hope For Horses. As a runner, he competed four times and earned $1,380. We know he will make a fantastic pet and riding horse.

Lucky Whalen is by Lookin' at Lucky and is out of a Kris S. mare. If you're interested in adopting him, please contact Hope For Horses.

Data Storm Kitty

The first time we met Data Storm Kitty, her owner met us at her stall and hugged her face. He looked at us and said, "I love this little girl. Find her a good home." We did just that. Data Storm Kitty was adopted by Heidi and is enjoying life in Anza - living a big pasture with other mares.

During her racing days, Data Storm Kitty made seven starts and earned more than $50,000. She will have a second career as a riding horse.

Gadot

Gadot, named after actress Gal Gadot, lives up to the beauty and strength of her namesake's famous role as Wonder Woman. As a runner, she made seven starts and even won a race. Fortunately, Gadot and Data Storm Kitty were able to go to their new home together.

Street Zombie

In the world of zombies, Street Zombie is much closer to Rick Grimes than a walker. He is a five-year-old gelding by Street Boss who ran 12 times - finishing in the top three in over half of his efforts. Ever since he joined the Placement Program, he impressed us with his go-with-the-flow demeanor. Street Zombie is starting his second career with aftercare charity Whispering Meadows Ranch.
